But winter doesn't have to be all bad. With some changes and adjustments to your routine, you can be sure to not only survive, but maybe even thrive in the season.
Below we've listed all our favourite winter wellness tips to stay happy & healthy during the chilly months.
Table of contents
Winter is prime soup season – and we’re leaning in. Big pots of pumpkin soup, spicy lentil broths, or a classic chicken and vege combo are not only comforting and delicious, they’re also the perfect way to sneak in loads of immune-boosting veggies.
Think leafy greens, carrots, garlic, ginger, and mushrooms. All full of nutrients your body needs to fight off colds and keep you feeling nourished.
Our favourite tip is to batch cook the soup and freeze portions. You'll be glad you did when when you’re cold, tired, and need something healthy in five minutes flat.
Hydration in winter? Often overlooked. When we’re not sweating buckets under the summer sun, it’s easy to forget to keep up our fluids.
However, antioxidant-rich teas like green tea, rooibos, or even herbal blends with echinacea or lemon and honey are a winter wellness dream. They keep you warm, hydrated, and loaded with anti-inflammatory, immunity-loving compounds.
Our go-to? A hot mug of green tea with a squeeze of lemon. It’s like a hug for your insides. Bonus: it doubles as a great hand-warmer when you’re curled up on the couch.
Look, we know. Working out when it's cold outside is a hard sell. But keeping your body moving is one of the best things you can do to support your immune system, boost your mood, and stop yourself from morphing into a winter gremlin full-time.
Don't feel like you have to run laps in sub-zero temperatures at 6am. Take your workouts indoors. Try a living room yoga flow, a quick dance session, or a 30-minute YouTube Pilates class. As long as you’re moving, you’re good.
Cold air, hot showers, and indoor heating = the holy trinity of dehydrated, irritated skin. Enter: Baume B5 by La Roche-Posay . This thick, dreamy balm is a skin saviour when your face (or hands, or lips, or elbows…) are throwing a little winter tantrum.
Rich in panthenol (aka vitamin B5), it calms, restores, and protects skin in record time. Keep it in your bag, on your bedside table, and at your desk. Your winter skin will thank you.
Is our favourite winter wellness tip a little bit extreme (and expensive)? Maybe. But we stand by it. If you have the chance to escape the chill and head somewhere sunny – even if it’s just for a long weekend – do it.
Vitamin D, serotonin, sunshine, Aperol... it’s all part of the healing process.
Whether it’s hopping over to the Northern Hemisphere for a Euro summer dream or even just sneaking away to Fiji, a mini break can do wonders for your energy and mental health.
Instead of dreading the cold, embrace it. Invite your favourite people over and throw a mini mid-winter dinner party. Roast some delicious food, bring out the red wine, throw together a cheeseboard, and pull out the board games.
It’s the best kind of winter wellness: good food, cosy vibes, and in person connections with the people you love most. Nothing cures winter-syndrome quite like a loud dining table and a few too many reds with your friends & family.
Sleep is one of those wellness things we all know we need more of, but don’t always prioritise – especially when there’s Netflix to binge or TikToks to scroll.
But hear us out: winter is the perfect time to lean into longer, deeper rest. Your body’s immune system does some of its best work while you sleep. So, let yourself snooze that extra half hour. Bump your 8 hours to 8.5 or even 9 if your schedule allows. Your body (and your mood) will notice the difference.
We find that hands, feet & lips get particularly affected by the harsh winter conditions. It’s time to go hard on the hydration. Keep a hand cream in your coat pocket, your glovebox, your handbag, your nightstand... literally everywhere.
Same goes for lip balm. Reapply often. Treat yourself to a thick foot balm and some fluffy socks before bed. This is your winter wellness glow-up, one dab of balm at a time.
We saved the most boring – but also most important – tip for last.
If you’re serious about staying well this winter, book in for your flu shot . It's a simple, effective way to drastically reduce your risk of getting knocked out by the flu.
Hot drinks, spa nights, and staying inside are all cute – but prevention is queen. Do your future self (and your immune system) a favour and get the jab.
